uPVC Bay Windows in Scunthorpe

Bay windows make a stylish addition to any property giving the feeling of increased internal space. There are many ways to convert a flat casement window into a bay window including tiled bay roofs, flat roofs and GRP bay canopies. We have detailed the different kinds of bay windows below, if you do not find the information that you require please contact us for advice or to arrange a survey and quotation in Scunthorpe.

Bay Window Construction

Our uPVC bay windows are constructed using either casement windows or upvc sliding sash windows. As standard the uPVC window frames are connected by using either 90° corner posts or 135° bay posts, the 135 degree posts are typically used on a 3-facet bay windows. A 5-facet bay window requires adjustable bay posts which consist of a tubular section or uPVC clad aluminium that connects into bay post couplers; this means that you can create a bespoke angles for a custom made bay window.

Some properties have what are called sun-trap bay windows, this is when the house brickwork is in line with the windows, therefore the windows have to support the weight of the brickwork on the first floor. It is possible that the bay will utilise a cantilever lintel which takes the weight of the brickwork. Alternatively you can install bay-jacks which are housed within the bay posts, the jacks are reinforced steel posts which take the weight of the roof.

Sun-trap Bay Windows

If you are looking for a truly stunning feature on your property then we can construct a walk-in sun-trap bay window. This involves some building work to cut-out your existing brickwork and construct a dwarf wall, new internal floor, new roof and ceiling. This not only increases the size of your room but also allows more light to enter your property.

A single story sun-trap bay can have either a flat roof or a pitched tiled roof, pitched roofs are more desirable that a felt flat roof but will cost more due to the cost of construction. A tiled roof also has a longer life expectancy assuming the correct rooftrim ventilation is installed.

Bay Window Canopies

A bay window conversion requires lower supports to support the weight of the windows and bay canopy, these brackets are coloured to match the canopy in a GRP fibreglass mould. This is then covered with an extended internal window board which is cut to size on site.

A bay window canopy can be a ready-made GRP fibreglass moulded bay canopy, these come in set sizes, this may require some building work to change the window aperture to match the plan of the canopy. Alternatively we can construct a bespoke bay window tiled roof on site to suit your window aperture, alternatively a flat roof can also be constructed with either a felt, fibreglass or lead roof covering. Internally a new ceiling is constructed which is insulated and plaster boarded and skimmed to match in with the internal finish.
